LETHE

These little, sweet skulls are a tribute to memento mori jewelry. "Memento mori" is a Latin phrase meaning "Remember you shall die". Memento mori is a genre of artistic creations varying widely from one another, but all share the same purpose, to remind people of their own mortality. The spirit of the idea is better found in the phrase "carpe diem" or "seize the day". Sometimes memento mori jewelry is worn for mourning the loss of a loved one, but, most often it serves as a reminder to treasure each day of your life and to live each day to the fullest.

Lethe was a mythological river nymph and her river ran from the earth into the Underworld. The Lethe was the river of Oblivion, and, all souls of the departed had to drink the water from the river to forget earth, and the pleasures of mortality in order to transcend to the spirit realm.
